Centerpoint School – 1913 Class Roll

A Centerpoint School class roll from 1913.

Centerpoint was located in southern Montgomery County, Alabama. It was near Elmdale, the Moore-Wingard farm. Some of the teachers lived with the Wingards.

Clinton King was the teacher in 1913. One of his students is my grandfather’s sister, Magnolia Wingard, age 15. Five years later, in 1918, Clinton King and Magnolia Wingard were married.

Several of my great uncles and aunts and their kin are listed on the report card.

I have posted additional information elsewhere about Centerpoint School.

I came across this article on Facebook that someone shared. I knew it had to be my family. My grandfather was William Dorsey Menefee, son of Clyde Irene Emma Wingard Menefee. I grew up and still live in south Montgomery County. My Grandparents lived at the end of Moore Road on the right just before the bridge that was washed out. They moved from there when I was a small child, if not before I was born. I do remember going to their house after it sold, which has moved further down Moore Rd. I also remember my Grandmother taking me to visit the cemetery and I remember the big old house that was there, it was falling in but it was there. I am so tickled to see the page you have created. I haven’t read it all yet, I will once I finish this note. My name is Cheryl Janice Menefee daughter of David Wayne Menefee the baby of Dorsey and Minnie Lee Menefee.

      Dear Janice –

Thank you for posting this comment. I have several other posts about the Wingard family on this blog. My great grandparents were George Franklin Wingard and Carrie Lou Moore Wingard. George Franklin’s first wife, as you know, was Lennah Emma Curry, mother of Clyde Irene Emma Wingard Menefee. Please pass along any information you might have. I know very little about Lennah Emma Curry’s children and grandchildren. Yours, Charlie

She had 3 children as far as I know. Dorsey, Emma Jewel and Beulah. My grandfather had 4 children with his first wife and 4 children with my grandmother. I will get more information together for you when I talk to my aunt so I get tell you exactly what happened with my Great Aunts, as I didn’t see them much growing up and they passed before I was old enough to get to know. I will also look for pictures, I know we have the one you have of the school kids at Centerpoint Will be back in touch soon. Janice
